Maiden Voyage: Ohio State Parks RV Camping Sets High Standards
Updated: Oct 7
"A ship in harbor is safe, but that’s not why ships were built." – John A. Shedd
Ohio State Parks are well maintained and feature an abundance of natural attractions.

After the experiences of The Launch, we felt ready to head out for adventure. We were still on a steep learning curve, with more questions than answers, but the anticipation outweighed the nerves and kept us moving forward. We pointed the Wonder east through Ohio toward southwest Pennsylvania on a trip that would set the tone for many adventures to come.
Our first stop for Ohio State Parks RV camping was the picture-perfect Mohican State Park near Loudonville in northeast-central Ohio. Before long, we would become big fans of Ohio's state park system, but Mohican was the place that started it all. It was also the perfect way to begin our travels in our new Leisure Travel Vans Wonder Rear Lounge on its maiden voyage. We spent our first evening sitting outside beneath towering hardwoods, realizing our RV dream was finally underway.
The picture-perfect Mohican State Park near Loudonville in northeast-central Ohio was the best place to start our RV adventures. Our reserved site was wide, level, well-maintained, and tucked close to the natural beauty of this mature park. Broad green lawns nearby added to the sense of space and calm. It felt like exactly the kind of place we had imagined when we started dreaming about RV travel.
Beyond the quiet woodlands and gently flowing river, we found plenty to explore — interesting architecture, local history, and natural wonders that matched our interests. We’ll definitely be back to hike the gravel trails, cross the swinging bridge, and float on some of the 27 miles of easy “tubable” river that runs through and beyond the park.
We discovered there are places of real Wonder not too far from home.

Looking back, Mohican was the perfect place to begin. It was quiet, beautiful, and close enough to home to build our confidence while still feeling like an adventure. We arrived as nervous first-time RVers and left eager to see what waited around the next bend in the road.
Perhaps our paths will cross there someday, Along the Pooka Trail.
